The Leadership Our Schools Need
Chris has made significant contributions to local governance. As a six-year board member of the Cedar Key Special Water and Sewer District, he played a pivotal role in lobbying for and securing $3.8 million in capital projects. His commitment to education continued as an eight-year member of the Levy County School Board, where he served six years as a Certified Board Member.
On a broader scale, Chris represented Levy, Dixie, Gilchrist, Lafayette, and Taylor counties on the Florida School Boards Association Board of Directors for six years. He also chaired the Small District Council for three years and has been an active member of the Small School Districts Council Consortium Executive Committee for nine years. Chris was recently elected chairman of the 39 Small School Districts Council Consortium of Florida, after serving as Vice-Chair the previous 2 years.

About Christopher Cowart
Chris Cowart, a proud Bronson High School graduate, has dedicated his life to education and community service in Levy County. With an extensive educational background, he holds degrees from Santa Fe College and the University of Florida, underscoring his commitment to lifelong learning.
During his 23 year coaching career in the public school system and at the college level, Chris positively impacted countless students by teaching & mentoring on and off the court. His dedication to education is matched by his extensive business acumen, gained from managing his family business for 17 years, which recently celebrated 45 years of successful operation.
Certified as a Superintendent by the Florida Association of District School Superintendents since 2021, Chris’s excellence was recognized when he was named the 2021 Superintendent of the Year by the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations.
Beyond his professional achievements, Chris is a devoted family man. He is married to Ashley, and together they have three children—Grace, Justin, and Lucas—all proud graduates of Levy County schools. Chris Cowart’s career is a testament to his unwavering dedication to education, community, and family, making him a trusted and effective leader for Levy County.
